~A Warm Dinner and a Taste of the Tropics~

Tonight I tried a different take on lasagna. Actually, it was more like lasagna meets spaghetti- and I'm proud to say it was definitely a success!

Making it was interesting too- I first pan fried 1 pound of ground beef with half of a diced onion. At the same time, I boiled half a package of thin spaghetti. I then needed to make some marinara sauce to add on top of the ground beef- I used a whole can of tomato paste, about 1.5 cups of water, salt, onion powder, fresh garlic paste, fresh basil (that I froze when I had the actual plant in the summer), and some oregano. It was SO TASTY! I then added cooked peas and carrots to the beef mix (about 1 cup).

Just one thing was left to make- béchamel sauce. I mixed some flour and olive oil in the bottom of a pot over medium-low heat until they were an equally blended consistancy. I then added about 2-3 cups of milk, one chicken bouillon cube, and about 1-2 tbs of cornstarch (to make it thicker).

After the spaghetti finished cooking, I split them in half and laid one half in the bottom of a pretty deep serving dish/bowl. I then spread the beef marinara combination on top of the noodles, followed by the other half (kind of like a sandwich). After that, I poured the creamy béchamel on top of everything, allowing it to reach every inch by forking it through the spaghetti.

What made this dish the most decadent was the shredded mozzarella spread over the entire platter. I placed it in the oven at around 350 degrees until I saw the cheese melt- then broiled it for about 1-2 minutes until it had a pizza-like effect. The best part of eating this delish dish was the crunchiness of the toasted fromage.

Gotta let our taste buds visit the tropics after an Italiano meal- this calls for a milkshake! I just tossed a banana, a few strawberries, 2 cups of fat free milk, and about 2-3 tbs sugar into the blender- product: a super tasty drink to sip on while relaxing on the comfy couch after a dragging day.

(Oh, and you can so tell that I was too impatient to taste the treat before taking the pic, by that embarassing lip stain on the glass rim)

In case you're wondering that they are... they are only the best decal ever!!  Have an empty/plain wall, cabinet, tray, box, gift, ...anything?  Wallies will surely turn that around!  They are the perfect fast and easy solution to a boring room.  These cutouts come in all shapes and sizes- from headboards to boarders to chalkboards- their possibilities are undeniably endless!  Here are my faves (and I really had to narrow these down):

I saw them on this Blackberry commercial and decided that there is NOTHING cooler!  I would love love LOVE to cycle on these glowy quirkies in the middle of the quiet night... I reeeeaaaalllly want to ride one! (Although, I don't know where in the city I would ride it without getting mugged...)

Shimmy Scarves and Ballerinas

Well, yesterday had wayy too many interesting things for me not to share...

I tried a belly dance course... and oh what an experience that was! The class was not too great, and the teacher was something else- she was definitely a crazy wild geezer- which made me (and the class) quite uncomfortable at (many) times! But, my favorite part was wearing that embellished scarf around my hips- it was SO SO PRETTY! (and wearing it definitely make me feel like a pro dancer!) So, of course, I decided to check out those beaded beauties online and here are some that I love:

Now, I want to get one- but I thought of a better and more exciting idea- I want to make one!! That is definitely going to be my next project... school and studying will probably delay it, ALOT, but hopefully I'll get to it sometime! I'm thinking either light pink or lavender with a scalloped train of those noise making coins!

Moving on... right after that, I went straight to my first actual ballet class- I LOVED it!!! There were so many parts of it I loved, that I could make a list:

1. It was extremely relaxing!
2. I learned about 4 different routines
3. I loved the discipline I needed to acquire
5. (This is the best one) There was a piano accompanist playing for us at different beats for every routine- she was AMAZING! I am awe-inspired by her exceptionally impressive playing skills- now I want to learn a ballet inspired piece. Again, I searched online (google is my best friend) and I discovered Jamie Narushchen- a well renowned ballet pianist whose music is phenomenal- and I'm going to attempt to learn at least one melody from his collection. So, I'm going with 'Plie' ~

My day at school ended with an ultra tasty sweet given to me by my Taiwanese classmate- it was a pineapple cake from Taiwan... SO GOOD! To be honest, I wasn't sure what to expect when I was ripping open the charming gold textured wrapping. So sweet of her...

Thursday *Thrills*

This Thursday's thrill is- Tom Mannion's phogoraphy!  I came across his photos online, and I was totally blown away!  Not only is he a phenomenal photographer, but the creativity in his work is remarkable!  If I'm ever in the mood to feel inspired, I just take a look at some of his photographs.

This is definitely my favorite- I could stare at it all day!  I love that clam on the side.

A Spoon and a Knork

It's a fork, no wait, it's a knife!  It's a Knork!!  I've been waiting for this little chap my whole life!!  It's WAY better than the spork!  Best invention ever- why didn't I think of it?!  It was featured on Top Chef- All Stars- and found it's way into the hands of top chefs, and soon will find it's way into my kitchen!
